PUBLIC SAFETY
Renato Rainha, a member of the Federal District Court of Auditors (TCDF), was sworn in as chair of the newly created Public Safety Committee of the Rui Barbosa Institute (IRB) during the 9th National Meeting of Courts of Auditors (ENTC) in Foz do Iguaçu. The new committee will help strengthen the role of the Courts of Auditors in overseeing and promoting public safety policies, seeking more effective and coordinated solutions to address the challenges in this area throughout the country.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
The opening panel on the final day addressed Artificial Intelligence, Sustainability, and External Oversight: Management of Environmental, Social, and Economic Risks. Moderated by the president of the Rui Barbosa Institute (IRB), Councilor Edilberto Carlos Pontes Lima (TCE-CE), the session featured presentations by Karin Kässmayer, a legislative consultant for the Senate, and Aline Macohin, an analyst with SERPRO’s Comptroller’s Office. “50% of the Courts of Auditors already use artificial intelligence tools in their operations. And this leads us to reflect on the challenges regarding security and accountability,” said the council member.
CHALLENGES AND GOVERNANCE
Moderated by Donato Volkers Moutinho, alternate member of the Court of Auditors of the State of Espírito Santo (TCE-ES), the panel “Impacts of Public Debt and Revenue Waivers on the Implementation of Public Policies” addressed crucial topics such as the consequences of public debt, revenue waivers, and the sustainability of public policies. MPTCU prosecutor Rodrigo Medeiros de Lima, Senate budget consultant Rita de Cássia Leal Fonseca dos Santos, and Getúlio Vargas Foundation professor Élida Graziane Pinto provided an in-depth analysis of fiscal management, public governance, the challenges of the tax system, and the need for structural reforms, while also highlighting the risks of corruption and the importance of sustainability in an economic and environmental context.
